Simple Pleasures
Letting loose as much as possible these days resulted in an amazing chalk fight between the kids the other day. They had left a few sticks
of their chalk out in the rain, which made the chalk squishy. They did what kids do and smeared it all over themselves and each other.
Normally, I would have had anxiety about the mess and the clean up and our already packed evening. But I let it go. I allowed myself to enjoy them in all their child exhilaration and watched as they attacked each other.
It was relieving, exciting, happy, hilarious, and a million other things all at once.
I thought to myself, "Why do we not do this everyday?" I love watching them just get pure delight from the most simple of things. Nothing else I did that day was more gratifying than the chalk fight.
As moms in the Pinterest Era, we tend to overbook, overstretch, and overdo just about everything. Extra curricular activities, craft time, supplementary learning time, making handmade soap, making bento lunches, etc etc etc. Children just need you to be present to enjoy everyday life. You do not need to make their childhood magical; childhood is magical within itself.
Be present. Be happy. Enjoy life.
